Challenges and opportunities for Ireland's four main parties
This time last year Irish politics was in a state of paralysis; the most inconclusive general election result in the State’s history was followed by 10 weeks of protracted negotiations to form a government. One year on, and with a sense the next electoral test may not be far away, Insider has been considering the shape the various parties find themselves in and their battle plans both locally and nationally.

First weekend packs plenty of surprises
Last weekend's big kick-off of the Mayo League saw plenty of surprises in the top division, with Glenhest, Manulla and and Straide and Foxford United all picking up the points against what was perceived as superior opponents, while a new look Ballyheane laid down a marker of intent with an impressive 5-1 win at home over league new boys Achill Rovers.

Mayo do the necessary — but bigger tasks await
Mayo put in an impressive offensive performance to defeat a free falling Roscommon by eight points leaving the Rossies in dire relegation trouble. The 1-19 to 0-14 scoreline suggests a rout but it is somewhat flattering considering All-Star goalkeeper David Clarke pulled off a string of top class saves to keep Roscommon at bay. Clarke, for the third league game in a row, has been one of Mayo's top performers and was deservedly the winner of the man-of-the-match award.
Keegan hopes to deliver new season promise for Galway United
New Galway United manager Shane Keegan is looking forward to tonight's SSE Airtricity League premier division opener against Drogheda United at Eamonn Deacy Park.
Ladies look to lay down marker against Rebels
It was third time lucky for the Mayo Ladies last weekend, when they picked up their first win of this year's National Football League with a 3-14 to 0-18 win over Armagh in Clonmore. Mayo will be hoping that five point win will kick start their league campaign up a few gears, following defeats to Galway and Monaghan in the opening two rounds of the competiton.
Mayo are ready for Rossies challenge
Following their victory on the road in Tralee a fortnight ago, all eyes will be turned to MacHale Park tomorrow evening when Mayo host Roscommon in the third round of the National Football League. Whenever these sides meet, be it in pre-season competition on wet and boggy fields or in the height of summer, there is never an inch given by either side and tomorrow night's encounter is expected to be a similar encounter.
