One of the largest-ever programme of events for National Women’s Enterprise Day (NWED) took place recently as the event returned to its normal in-person programme for 2022.

Research has shown that Irish women’s belief in their ability to run a successful business is continuing to grow as this year’s National Women’s Enterprise Day (NWED) is launched in Galway. The initiative of the Local Enterprise Offices, now in its 16th year, will take place on the 13th October with the aim of encouraging female entrepreneurship and supporting women in business across the country.

All 4 Design exhibition will feature the work of design artists Ben Gabriel, Leo Scarff, Orla Lawn, and Fiona Wood. Design journalist Eleanor Flegg will officially open the exhibition at 6pm on Friday 18th October 2019 at the Luan Gallery, Elliot road, Athlone, Co. Westmeath until 30th November.

The Quay Gallery, Westport, is now in its fourth year of business and is co-owned by three award winning artists - Suzie Sullivan, Susan Basler, and Victoria Foutz. The gallery has gained a superb reputation, both in Ireland and overseas, since opening in 2014 by striving to seek out the best talent in Irish art and craft and at the same time developing the artist’s own unique creative style.

Jewellery expert Phyllis MacNamara of Cobwebs, Galway, is renowned for spotting the up and coming stars of the jewellery world having being the first to stock such names as Rodney Rayner, Kenneth Jay Lane, Tatty Devine and Alexis Bittar, long before they became well-known International names in the industry. But now Phyllis has discovered a jewellery designer a little closer to home who she feels will be the next big name in jewellery design, namely goldsmith Nigel O’Reilly.

TODAY SEES the opening of the 19th Baboró International Arts Festival for Children opens in Galway, and for the next seven days, children and families can enjoy a creative extravaganza of theatre, puppetry, dance, music, animation, exhibitions and workshops.

So it was with great delight that your trusty correspondent attended the Monday evening launch for this year’s festival where details of the 2015 programme were unveiled.
