The divisions and rivalries were put aside across Mayo this week as the tragic news of the death of former Swinford and Castlebar Celtic player Gary Price filtered through the county. Price rose through the youths ranks at Swinford, before moving to Castlebar Celtic where he was part of the 2007 FAI Youth Cup winning side. Tributes and condolences were paid from all involved in soccer in Mayo to Price and his family during this trying time. Castlebar Celtic’s appeal to the Connacht FA over the Mayo League’s decision to close the €600,000 Rival Arena to adult football was won by the club on Wednesday night. Celtic PRO Noel Coll said yesterday, “The club is happy that the appeal was successful and we’re just looking to put this behind us and get on with what we are here to do and that’s run a football club. We just want to move on and get back to playing football.”
