Kilmovee 10k turns four on Easter Saturday

The fourth annual Kilmovee 10k Road Race and Walk takes place on Easter Saturday, March 30 starting at 1pm. This popular event attracted over 400 runners, joggers, and walkers last year. It has an AAI permit issued through Mayo AC and is organised by Kilmovee Shamrocks GAA Club. It is a joint fundraiser with Mayo/Roscommon Hospice and Kilmovee Shamrocks. The hospice is the main beneficiary - with €19,000 raised for them in the past three years. This is the first big road race in Mayo this year. Race organiser, John Roddy and his team are busy putting final plans in place for what is expected to be the biggest version of this event to date.

•Renmore AFC Soccer Club is running a Race Night in the Huntsman Inn College Road on Saturday March 9 to raise funds for the running of the soccer club. All are invited to attend, including anyone not directly involved in the club who would like to participate. The night will consist of a full race card of 10 races shown on large screen TVs with full tote facilities available. There will be an 'auction race' where punters can buy a horse with a chance for a major prize. There will also be lots of spot prizes. Large Mayo field in national half marathon

The national half marathon takes place next Sunday, September 2 at Athenry at 1pm. Mayo AC will have 38 athletes in the field competing in all categories as individuals and teams. This represents their largest team ever at a national championships. All Mayo AC team members are asked to be at Race HQ in the Presentation College beside the arch at Athenry by 11.30am to enable team declaration and registration. Members not running are encouraged to go along in support.

5K summer series continues to grow

Last week’s second leg of the Mayo AC 5K summer series saw Timmy Glavey cross the line in first place in a time of 16.36. Brendan Gill followed him home in second place in a time of 17.02, with Cian Mooney nine seconds further back in third place. The ladies’ section was won by Sarah Syron in a time of 20.10 with Ann-Marie Egan in second place in a time of 20.37 and Laura Langan finishing in third place in a time of 20.45. More than 50 per cent of those who took part finished in under 25 minutes, which was up from 44 per cent in the first leg which took place in Castlebar. The final leg will take place next Tuesday evening in Ballinrobe where there will be a party afterwards to celebrate the success of all the runners who have taken part in the series.

Over 150 take part in Ballyhaunis 5k

Hot summer of activity coming up

Tomorrow morning, Saturday June 9 at 10am the Claremorris Lions Club/Mayo Cancer Support Association - Claremorris 10k will take place. The 10k course is AAI measured and you can still enter tomorrow morning at the Dalton Inn Hotel. Entry costs €22 and there will be cash prizes on offer for the first three men and three women. The race will start and finish in the town centre. With refreshments available after the race.

Berkeley star of the show in Ballyhaunis

Ballyhaunis was blessed with welcome September sun on Saturday afternoon for the fourth annual 8k and final race in 2011 Mayo AC C&C Cellular Road League. Race organiser Martin Fitzmaurice and team put on an excellent, well-marshalled event.

The sixth race in Mayo AC's C&C Cellular 2011 Road League is at Claremorris on Saturday August 27 at 12 noon. It is also the 10th running of the DeCare Dental Sport a Smile five mile fun run and walk, in aid of Mayo Cancer Support Association. Mary and Timmy are Mayo AC league leaders

As runners prepare to head to the Balla 10k this coming Saturday evening for what will be the fourth race in the 2011 Mayo AC C & C Cellular league details of the top 25 league positions after three races held have just been published. Timmy Glavey (Mayo AC) leads the mens’ league after three quality runs with 64 points closely followed by club mate Robert Malseed on 62pts having also run three races. While well positioned in joint third on 49pts having run two races each are Roger Barrett (Ballina AC) and Matt Bidwell (Galway City Harriers).
