Eircom have admitted that it needs to replace nearly a kilometre of faulty cable in Forest Park Industrial Estate in the town. The fault left several businesses including an award winning, high-tech business without internet access. And according to one business owner eircom’s inability to provide reliable high speed broadband is threating the survival of their company. Robotics & Drives had signed up for O2 broadband, which uses eircom lines, and it was only after serious internet problems that the real issue came to light.

Almost 600 Eircom customers are without service and it may take five to six days to fix the faults causing the outages, said the company this afternoon.

Broadband is considered the number one infrastructure priority for enterprise growth and job creation. According to Forfás, Ireland's policy advisory board for enterprise and science: “The widespread availability of advanced broadband infrastructure and services is essential to realising future growth potential in existing and emerging sectors. It will also play a key role in supporting the growth of small business and supporting regional development.”
