The Fine Gael party in Westport has set out its stall ahead of June’s Local Elections. At a packed meeting in the Castlecourt Hotel in Westport last Monday night five Fine Gael candidates were selected for the upcoming Town Council elections on June 5.

I told him to let me think about it and the more time I took to think about it the more it seemed like the right thing to do, so I let my name go forward to the nominating convention and was nominated for the Town Council so here I am now.”

The Westport area is under the spotlight this week with this area being one to watch out for in the forthcoming local elections. This week I’ll have a look at the candidates. Those on show for Fine Gael in the electoral area are Councillor Peter Flynn, Cllr John O’Malley and Cllr Austin Francis O’Malley, while Cllr Keith Martin will be running for Labour and Dave Keating (Sinn Féin) will contest for Mayo County Council elections.

Less than seven weeks from the elections and things are hotting up in the race for Westport Town Council with the announcement of new candidates from Fianna Fáil, Fine Gael, and Labour.

During the launch in the Castlecourt Hotel last Friday of the three Westport area Fine Gael candidates running for the county election, Michael Ring TD told those present that it would not be long before Mayo has a taoiseach and perhaps a job for himself along the way.
