The organiser of Zero Day Con is advising third level institutions in Galway and across the country to urgently review their cybersecurity protocols, in the wake of a ransomware incident at one Irish university. The need for CCTV in towns in the county was raised at two different municipal district monthly meetings this week. The issue of some CCTV cameras not operating in Westport was raised at the West Mayo Municipal District, while at the Claremorris-Swinford Municipal District, a call was made for the installation of CCTV in Claremorris town to curb anti-social behaviour.

Mayo County Council has spent €19,000 on improvement and replacement works on the CCTV camera system in Casltebar over the past number of weeks, which has brought 21 of the 24 cameras in the town up to operational level.

A Fine Gael councillor has claimed that only six of the 19 CCTV cameras in the county town are working.

The Defence Forces Gala Concert in aid of South Westmeath Hospice and ONE Fuchsia appeal will take place in the Radisson Blu Athlone next Thursday, August 22, at 7pm. The concert will feature performances by the Band 2 Brigade, renowned singer Raphaela Mangan, and Athlone A Capella Choir.
