Hollister to invest €80 million in Ballina

This investment by Hollister will build upon their existing continence care portfolio of intermittent catheter products and services including their next generation hydrophilic catheters.

Calleary accuses Kenny of making empty election promises

The Taoiseach, Enda Kenny, this week said the IDA had confirmed to him that it will to undertake a feasibility study to assess the possible construction of an advance factory in Castlebar in an effort to attract a new major industry to the town. Earlier this year the IDA had announced plans to build similar factories in Letterkenny, Athlone and Waterford. The absence of Castlebar from this list raised the ire of a Labour Castlebar Town Councillor, Harry Barrett who raised the issue at the March meeting of Castlebar Town Council.

The people go to the polls

Mayo people go to the polls today to elect the 30 members of the new county council as well as having their say on who will take the seats in the new Midlands, North and West constituency in the European Parliament. More than 100,000 people in Mayo are eligible to cast their votes today across four new electoral areas of Castlebar, Ballina, Claremorris, and West Mayo.

GMIT Mayo launches new part-time honours art degree

GMIT Mayo has launched a new part-time honours art degree, one of only two level seven (honours) part-time art courses offered by a third-level college in Ireland. The new Bachelor of Arts (honours) in fine art is a two year add-on degree which comprises modules in painting and critical theory. It will be delivered in the Mayo campus in Castlebar one and a half days a week during the academic year, commencing September (2014). Graduates will be able to work as practitioners in the fields of painting or, subject to further specialisation and experience, in the fields of community arts, public art, arts administration, art and design education, curation, practice/theory based research, and careers linked to contemporary visual art and design culture.
