Mayo Sports Partnership distributes grants to sports and community groups

At a recent Mayo Sports Partnership Board meeting €19,500 was allocated to 46 clubs/organisations in Mayo through the Partnership's 2016 Special Participation Grant Scheme. Special guest at the presentation event, Minister of State for Regional Economic Development Michael Ring, paid tribute to volunteers involved in sport at all levels throughout the county. “Without volunteers sport in Mayo like every other county would not happen. Its so important that we recognise the hard work of volunteers through initiatives such as the Mayo Sports Partnerships annual small grant scheme,” Minister Ring said.

Mayo Sports Partnership is currently in the process of developing a new strategic plan to increase participation in sport and physical activity and ensure the best use of local resources in Mayo.

Egan and Horan team up for Westport seminar

Olympic silver medallist Kenneth Egan will be one of the sports stars and managers lining out to speak on Achieving Success in Sport – What does it take? a free, public seminar taking place in Westport Town Hall on Wednesday, November 11 starting at 7:30 pm. Kenneth, or Kenny, will be joined by James Horan, former Mayo Senior Football Manager, Valerie Mulcahy, one of the country’s most decorated sportswomen having claimed nine All-Ireland titles with the Cork Ladies Football side and Tom Mohan current manager of the FAI U17 national team. A member of the Connacht Rugby Team is also expected to join the panel but his name has not been confirmed at time of going to print.

Walking leader training course

Walking leader training is primarily aimed at people wishing to lead a voluntary walking group or to promote walking in the community or workplace. The course comprises a weekend of training (15 hours) and then a follow up four week walking programme to try out your new walking leader skills.  The course will commence at 7pm on Friday and finish on Sunday afternoon after lunch.

Men on the Move 'the best move you will ever make'

Mayo Sports Partnership and HSE West are calling on all men throughout Mayo who want to get more physically active to join a Men on the Move programme near you this autumn. Men on the Move is an eight week activity programme for men aged 30 plus with the aim to get active, have fun, and meet new people. It involves weekly or twice weekly sessions which are leader led. Training sessions are structured to suit different fitness levels and progress your fitness at a pace to suit you. It will be the best move you will ever make.
