Tooreen look to take the right path through Four Roads

On bank holiday Monday at 2pm, Tooreen will be looking to see off the challenge of Four Roads from Roscommon and book their place in the Connacht Intermediate Club Hurling Championship final. Monday’s game in Athleague will see the blue devils look to keep up the form that saw them demolish Ballyhaunis in some style in the county final a fortnight ago.

Minor hurlers go for glory in All Ireland final

The Mayo minor hurlers will line out in the final of the All Ireland Minor C Hurling Championship hoping to repeat their football counterparts’ recent victory over The Farney County. Mayo will face off against the Ulster men in Ballinamore, Co Leitrim, at 2pm, tomorrow, September 7.

Summer 5k series comes to an end in Ballyhaunis

Mayo AC celebrated the end of another successful and enjoyable Summer 5k Series at Ballyhaunis on Tuesday evening with a grand after party courtesy of the facilities at Ballyhaunis rugby club. The local meet and train group led by Martin Fitzmaurice put on a well organised event, they also provided welcome sustenance with a tasty hot meal and the usual runner's popular post race delights.

Hurling on the Green is back

Castlebar Mitchels hurling club’s Hurling on the Green starts on Monday July 1 and will run for six weeks. The main sponsor is Deely Opticians and the club would like to thank Mark and Denise for their continued support of this fine project. Hurling on the Green is a fun hurling coaching camp for youth members of Castlebar Mitchels Hurling Club. New members are most welcome to join the club. Hurling equipment will be available for sale at subsidised rates for members. The coaching programme is designed to suit all age groups from six to 12. Hurling on the Green will commence on Monday July 1 and run for six weeks on The Mall, Castlebar, every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday and Friday from 10am to 1pm. This year’s main coaches are Barry Lane and Alan Gavin and Cathal Walsh.

New music bank for youngsters in Mayo

The County Community Forum Instrument Music Bank, in the ownership of Mayo County Community Forum, is a new resource for young musicians in Mayo. Instruments from this bank can be borrowed by young people (up to 18) in the south west Mayo area for a period of up to one year.

SuperValu retailers in Mayo are calling on the county to get behind this year’s SuperValu TidyTowns competition. Last year there were 37 entries from Mayo with Westport winning the overall county award, in addition Bridie Moran of Westport TidyTowns was recognised as a SuperValu TidyT owns Hero for 2012.

Neighbours meet again for Tyrell Cup

The Mayo Senior Hurling Championship Final is down for decision this Sunday, October 7 at 2pm in Tooreen. Champions Ballyhaunis play neighbours Tooreen in what should be a tough and exciting encounter. Ballyhaunis are going for five in a row but local rivals Tooreen will keen to break this winning run and win their first senior championship since 2003.
