On June 8 Ballymahon will be rocking out to some fantastic home-grown talent - Mike Flannery, Wallis Bird, Fight Like Apes, and Hermitage Green - for the fifth annual Helium Festival, with more acts to be announced soon. Up to 30 bands performing across three stages on the day

Every farm has waste metal, old farm implements, iron, steel, aluminium, piping, wire fencing, copper, alloys, batteries, end of life vehicles and machinery. When something breaks around the farm it is often held onto in case it might come in useful some day. For too many years that old disc harrow has been sitting around, taking up much wanted space, attracting attention from unsolicited callers, posing a risk to the environment. This year’s Helium Fundraiser Festival will once again take place in Ballymahon over the second week of June.

The amount allocated for energy efficiency works in the county has been slashed in this year’s housing capital programme for the county, with funding cut from €400,00 to €190,000. According to Padraic Flanagan, senior executive officer with Mayo County Council, at a Housing SPC meeting on Thursday, the scheme in mind for completion this year with this funding is 20 units in Springfield, Bangor Erris. Initial survey work and electrical inspections on these units have already been carried out and Mr Flanagan said that more than likely basic work will be carried out on these houses, unlike the extensive work which was completed in houses in Newport, Castlebar, and Ballycastle under this programme last year.
