Councillors back Islandeady community on road closure

A decision on the proposed temporary closure for a number of months of an access road (L1811) into Islandeady village as part of the Westport to Turlough Road project - should be made next week - the April meeting of Castlebar Municipal District was told this week.

The elected members of the Castlebar Municipal District have agreed to investigate the idea of seeking funding for a mobile bandstand that could be used for events in the district. Fianna Fáil Cllr Martin McLoughlin had a notice of motion down for the council's February meeting calling for the council to "consider the provision of a Band Stand on the Mall now that funding of €250,000 is available to Local Authorities under the Outdoor Public Space Scheme 2021.This funding is provided by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media in consultation with the CCMA and Fáilte Ireland for outdoor spaces that Champions the Arts."
