Free mental health support group launched to help students deal with exam stress

Mental health charity Turn2Me has launched a free mental health support group, starting today (Thursday) at 6pm. The Exam Stress support group will be open to students of all ages and will cater for young people sitting the Leaving Certificate, students preparing for college entrance exams, and students doing third level examinations.

It is three years to the month since the signing into law by President Higgins of the Local Government Reform Act 2014. The act abolished Ireland’s 80 town councils as part of a range of measures designed to reform local administration. Three of those town councils operated in the Mayo towns of Ballina, Westport, and in the county capital, Castlebar. The debate continues as to whether the abolition of an entire tier of local government was largely beneficial or harmful. It may take longer than three years for any lasting effects to register themselves.

Mayo youngsters raise money for children's ward recliners

Young people from Foróige's Big Brother Big Sister programme and Mayo Comhairle Na nÓg collaborated to raise almost €2,400 for the purchase of reclining chairs at the children’s wards of Mayo University Hospital. The chairs are intended for use by parents who are required to stay overnight with their sick children.
