Murt Connolly and Mayo got off to a winning start to 2011 with a comfortable win over Galway and Connacht Intermediate club champions Pearses in Ballyheane on Saturday. Five first-half points apiece from Kenny Feeney (Tooreen) and Keith Higgins (Ballyhaunis) afforded both a half-time shower, as Murt Connolly took the opportunity to get to know his panel of players.
Tomorrow evening, Wednesday August 4, Mayo will make the trip to Sean Mac Diarmada Park in Carrick on Shannon to take on Leitrim in the semi final of the Connacht u21B hurling championship. Castlebar’s James Lowe will captain the side from centre half back for the game that throws in at 7pm.
