A two-hour long DVD of the Wallace Bicentenary Gala Concert in St Muredach's Cathedral, Ballina, in September is now on sale in the Pastoral Centre and local shops, or from members of the committee (Margaret Harrison, Terry Reilly, Liam MacHale, Michael Hogan, Pat Diamond, Barry McLoughlin).

What has been described as ‘an exciting 10 days of rediscovery’ will be unveiled in Ballina from September 6 to 16 with the presentation of the Wallace Bicentenary Celebrations in the town.

A discovery of great historical significance to the Ballina region has been unearthed following intensive world-wide research which has revealed the extraordinary musical talents of the Wallace family, who went on to entertain people throughout the world in the mid 19th century.

The new basketball season gets under way on Saturday night in Ballina Sports and Leisure Centre (tip-off 7.30pm) when the home team, Loftus Recycling, host Blue Demons, Cork, in the opening round of division one in the National Basketball League. The Ballina side also have their second and third round fixtures at home as they entertain Garvey’s St Mary’s (Tralee) on Saturday week, October 9, and Ballon (Carlow) the following Saturday night, October 16.
