It has to be the year of the Shark, that’s John ‘Shark’ Hanlon from County Carlow. He bought a horse called Hewick. Now he is 33/1 to take the Cheltenham Gold Cup in March. D’ya think, maybe.

Kinvara’s Dr Karen Weekes is a woman with a mission — for 70 days starting at the end of this year, she will row alone across 3,000 miles of the Atlantic Ocean, a feat that no Irishwoman has previously achieved.

Galway Executive Skillnet’s (GES) autumn training schedule was launched last week by adventurer Karen Weekes at Galway Rowing Club. Kinvara-based Ms Weekes is planning to be the first Irish woman to row solo across the Atlantic Ocean as part of her #SHECANDO2021 campaign.
