•An Everton academy coach will visit the Power Soccer School of Excellence in Galway in January. Players interested in being coached by the Everton coach can enrol on the Everton Way through Power Soccer - an on-line-coaching tool designed for young players to develop their game. •Club Íománaiochta Bearna/Na Forbacha and Barna Football Club will be hosting its celebrations of the GAA’s 125th anniversary this weekend. The party begins on Saturday in the Connemara Coast Hotel with a celebration dance at 10pm (tickets available on the door). The festivities continues the next day with a special Mass being held in Seipeal Bhearna at 10am where all deceased players and members of the two clubs will be remembered. This will be followed by Lá na gClub at Pairc na bhForbacha where there will be Poc Fada, bouncy castles, face painting, and much more. The weekend will end with teams from both codes of the GAA playing mixed games, ranging from u-14 up to adult.

•The female-dominated crew of Joie de Vie enjoyed victory in the second race of the Galway Bay Sailing Club’s Storm Technology Series in exhilarating conditions of up to 30 knot winds. First to the windward mark, using a small headsail. Joie de Bie stayed ahead of Henry and Marina Lupton’s new boat Beoga on the run to Leverets and continued to lead until close to the end when Optique overtook. However her keel lifted on the last gybe and the crew had to drop the kite, thus ceding the lead to Joie again, who maintained it to the finish, claiming first on both Echo and IRC handicap. Now What claimed second on Echo with Optique on IRC. Despite tearing their spinnaker with a Chinese gybe near the end of the race Beoga still limped home third over the line. In Class 2 the win went to RhoCoDar who sailed a good tactical race given the conditions. Addict took second with Thataway taking third.

•Tuam All Stars Gymnastic club members Amy Egan and Stephanie Gilmore, coached by Fionnuala Dooley Duffy, enjoyed success at the Celtic Cup in Cardiff when winning a bronze medal. •A new race on the Galway athletic calendar has been scheduled for Castledaly in south Galway on Sunday (2pm). Organised with co-operation from Craughwell AC and AAI approved, the race will be run on the Gort to Loughrea road, with race headquarters at the local St Thomas GAA Club. This race is being organised in support of AIDS Partnership with Africa, a charity with which many locals have become actively involved. Local organiser Marguerite Brady says: "We know that we're the new kids on the block, but we hope to put on a well-organised race that will be suitable for all standards of runners to enjoy. “ Online entry for the race is now open at www.RunIreland.Com.
