Galway City Partnership has recently taken part in Safefood’s new national conversation on how to improve the local food environment. The initiative is part of Safefood’s ongoing public health campaign, Talk about Food, which aims to raise awareness of the unhealthy food environment around us and consider how to build a better one.

The 2025 festival runs from Tuesday, October 21, to Monday, October 27, and features comedic heavyweights including Rhod Gilbert, Dylan Moran, Deirdre O’Kane, Jack Dee, and Omid Djalili.

The full programme for this year’s Galway Comedy Festival will be revealed tomorrow (Friday). In the meantime, organisers have revealed that the Pálás Cinema will be a key venue for this year's festival, which runs from October 21 to 27.

For the past few summers, as the Galway International Arts Festival arrived, I would head into town and have a quick look at whatever was on during the day. The open-air installations and galleries were handiest, letting me enjoy a chunk of what was on offer, while still allowing me to make the last bus home. Today, Thursday, July 24, at 1pm, Aine Bird, Caitlín Nic Gabhann and Anne Marie Grogan continue their lunchtime traditional music series at the venue.

Emma Moore of Galway City Harriers placed seventh in a competitive heat over 800m individually, and later in the championships was instrumental on the Women's 4x400m team who set a new national U23 record in their heat. The quartet of Moore, Kate O'Connell (Lucan Harriers), Victoria Amiadamen (Dooneen AC), and Jenna Breen (City of Lisburn AC) clocked a time of 3:34.81 to dip under the previous record (3:34.87) set in 2017.

Changing preconceptions, the contemporary circus will open tomorrow, Friday, July 11, and run until July 27. Audiences at this Galway International Arts Festival event can enjoy the theatrics of trapeze, dance, juggling, and acrobatics, but all wrapped up and presented in a very different way than traditional circus.
