FOR CLOSE to 30 years, the Galway Film Fleadh has always taken place in early July, in the week before the arts festival. This year, as with so many things in 2021, will be somewhat different.

Galway International Arts Festival this week launched a fundraising campaign ahead of the 44th annual Festival, which this year will take place from August 28 to September 18.

Two Galway buildings finished in the top three in the race to find the winning project in the 2020 RIAI Public Choice Award announced by The Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland (RIAI) this week.

 The primary purpose of the network is to formalise a system for sharing information, strategies and culture amongst festivals that will represent a strong voice in Europe. It will shape, develop, reach and agree on common positions and perspectives on key issues. The network will be able to develop resources, business models, best practices and information exchange infrastructures to support members in the emerging film ecosystem, providing a unique opportunity to strengthen film festivals.

Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, Galway International Arts Festival today confirmed that the Festival will not go ahead as planned this July. However, the Festival is planning to present a special programme of events this Autumn, subject to guidelines. Full details to be announced soon.

GALWAY FILM Fleadh, in association with Galway 2020 and the Pálás Cinema, is partnering with the European Film Academy to take part in the EFA’s Young Audience Award.

FEATURE FILM submissions are now open for the 32nd Galway Film Fleadh. Previous films which have been entered in this category included The Young Offenders, Hunt for the Wilderpeople, and Song Of The Sea.

Short films about climate action, hearing, and water were to the fore when young science filmmakers from Donegal, Dublin, Cork, Galway, Offaly, Sligo, and Meath were honoured at the ReelLIFE SCIENCE Video Competition Awards held at the recent Galway Science and Technology Festival Exhibition in NUI Galway.
