Current holders Westport entertained Super League newbies Glenhest Rovers to the Sports Park on Sunday afternoon. In a closely fought affair, goals from David Hoban and Adam Mulchrone got the Covies off to a flying start in a 2-0 win. Ciaran Kelly and his Castlebar Celtic side travelled to North Mayo on Saturday evening and they gained a share of the spoils in a real humdinger. Anthony Johnston, Ioseph O’Reilly and Jamie Ivers opened their league accounts for the Hoops, whilst Jason Boylan, Tom Ivan and Jamie Flannery were on target for Iorrais in a 3-3 draw.

Westport United retained the Elverys Sports Super League title on Sunday thanks to a 7-1 win over Conn Rangers at the Sports Park. They had to come from behind as Johnnie Cocozzoa gave the North Mayo side an early lead. Westport Utd under the tutelage of John Brennan this season rallied and pushed 3-1 clear at the break thanks to goals from Mark McNally, Joe Lawless and Pat Fitzgerald. It was more of the same in the second half where they put on a show for the Westport faithful. McNally grabbed another along with goals from Jamie Fallon, Danny Scahill and David Hoban wrapping up a comprehensive win.

Retailers in Ballina Municipal District urged to take up new facade improvement scheme

Business people in the towns of Ballina, Ballycastle, Bonniconlon, Foxford, Crossmolina, Killala, and Swinford are being urged to take up the grant aid that is available to them to make improvements to their shop fronts under a recently adopted Traditional Facades Grant Scheme. The scheme was adopted by the members of the Ballina Municipal District at their October meeting on Wednesday this week.
