Gealóga – Mayo’s bright young musicians

On Thursday June 13, Gealóga, a traditional music ensemble formed as part of the Music Generation Mayo - Music Residency Programme, performed for international delegates attending the Education Committee Meeting in Castletown House, Leixlip, a Department of Education and Skills event organised as part of Ireland’s EU presidency.

Creating a traditional music ensemble with Music Generation Mayo and Emer Mayock

Music Generation Mayo, part of Music Generation, Ireland’s national music education programme, funded by U2 and the Ireland Funds together with local partners, is offering an opportunity to experienced young traditional musicians and singers with a high standard of playing ability to form a traditional music ensemble. Participants, to be aged between 12 and 18 years, will participate in a six month music residency under the guidance and mentorship of acclaimed Mayo musician and performer Emer Mayock. The residency will culminate in a live performance opportunity by the ensemble in June 2013.

Digital media seminar in Castlebar

A seminar on digital media and creative industries in Mayo will take place on Wednesday September 29 next in the Linenhall Arts Centre, Castlebar, from 2pm to 5pm. This forms part of Mayo Ideas Week, the objective of which is to highlight the trends and opportunities for new enterprise in some of the industry sectors which show potential for growth in Co Mayo.
