A man who shouted abuse at gardaí after they were called to a disturbance at a wedding was sentenced to community service at Ballina District Court this week.

Ernie Deacy to be honoured at the C & C Cellular/Vodafone Mayo Athletic Awards

Ballina Athletic Club is this year hosting the 2011 C & C Cellular/Vodafone Mayo Athletic Awards which will be held at a gala function in the Downhill Hotel, Ballina on Sunday next February 26. Athletes from all over Mayo will be honoured for their contribution to athletics during the past year. Certificates or awards will be presented to all athletes who won national medals in 2011. Another person to be honoured on the night is Ernie Deacy who will be presented with the Hall of Fame Award for 2011.

A wonderful evening of chamber and choral music will take place in the Downhill Hotel on Friday, May 7. Taking part in this evening of music will be the Westminster College Chamber Singers from Salt Lake City, Utah, under the direction of Dr Christopher Quinn, and Cór Mhaigh Eo under the direction of Dr Brian Lennon.
