Claremorris is set to be transformed into a carnival of folk music, street performers and artisan food stalls this July. The line-up for the two-day Claremorris Folk Festival (July 20-21) was unveiled on Friday (April 5) at a launch party in the town.
It’s that time of year again when Claregalway Community Centre is transformed into a magical theatre for the annual Claregalway Drama Festival. For over a year young musicians from Ballina and throughout Mayo have been taking advantage of an exciting new creative facility. The Core is a resource for young musicians and schools in the Mayo community. It is run under the auspices of Music Generation Mayo and housed within Ballina Arts Centre. At The Core, young people aged 12 to 18 years can engage in instrumental tuition, workshops, camps, and regular performance opportunities such as open mics and showcases. The Core also has a dedicated members only creative space which is kitted out with high quality equipment. The resource has lots of instruments including electric guitars, drums, piano, synths, a range of amplification, PA, and studio recording equipment.
With just five weeks to go, planning for Ballina Salmon Festival is well under way with a packed programme of family-friendly events confirmed for Mayo’s largest community festival. Now in its 53rd year, the 2017 festival runs for three additional days, from Sunday, July 9, to Sunday, July 16, and will bring the streets alive with street theatre, live music, food, heritage, sports, and exhibitions.
