The decision of the pair to step down brings to an end a week of intense speculation around the county after it emerged that the senior panel had at a meeting voted no confidence in the management after just one year in charge of the senior side.

Mayo look to complete three-in-a-row of titles

The Mayo minor hurlers contest the All Ireland Minor C Hurling final against Tyrone on Saturday in Ballinamore in Leitrim at 2.30pm. This is third year in a row that Mayo have reached this stage of the competition, winning it on both of their last two appearances in the final and beating Monaghan in both of those finals. This year it is Ulster opponents once again for Mayo with the red hand men from Tyrone standing in their way of collecting a three-in-a-row.

An Pucan, Galway’s multi award winning, newest oldest bar, has been awarded another two industry awards. The ‘Oscars’ of the Irish licensing industry were held in Dublin on September 7 to celebrate the best of Irish hospitality at the “Sky Bar of the Year Awards”. With over 30,000 votes cast by the public, An Púcán took home the award for Connaught Bar of the Year and also for Best Use of Social Media.

The GAA patrons in both Galway and Mayo have one thing in common this week, a frantic search for tickets for next Saturday and Sunday’s two sell-out games at Croke Park. It promises to be a hectic 24 hours of GAA action with Mayo replaying Dublin for a place in the decider against perennial favourites Kerry, and the Galway hurlers trying to bridge a 27-year gap that stretches back to Conor Hayes as team captain in 1988.

The demand of the Mayo football faternity for tickets for tomorrow's All Ireland football semi-final replay with Dublin is gone well beyond what the county has seen ever for a game at this stage of the competition. After last week's sell-out drawn match the sold out signs went up early this week with general sale tickets being snapped up within hours.
