Colleran auctioneers has just been favoured with the sale of No 8 Rosán Glas on the Rahoon Road, an attractive, spacious, four bedroom semidetached house in a popular and much sought after modern development. Built by O’Malley Construction in 2004, this house enjoys all the benefits of modern construction and design.

It was another very successful auction for clients of Colleran auctioneers last week with all but one property selling and one for €75,000 over its guide price. It was certainly a case of quality over quantity with the auction of four properties attracting so many buyers that it was standing room only at the back of the auction room in the Victoria Hotel.

It not difficult to see why Ballybane/Old Mervue has become so popular with first time buyers and investors, as this mature residential area still remains affordable despite its convenience to the city centre and its proximity to shopping centres and some of Galway’s largest employers.

Described by many as one of Galway's hidden gems Killeen House, Bushypark, on the shores of the Corrib, will be auctioned next Thursday by Don Colleran. Built by three English solicitors in 1837, it was purchased by the Palmer family from the Glenlo Abbey estate as a dower house in 1904. In 1949 Mary Simonds, who was returning from India, purchased the house and was responsible for a lot of the landscaping in the beautiful gardens. She lived there until 1963 when an American merchant banker, Frank Manheim, bought it. It was the Manheim family that carried out considerable renovations to the property to the highest standards which are still very evident today as the property is in wonderful condition throughout.
