The “Growing Up in Ireland” study revealed that 2.2 per cent of nine-year-olds have lost a parent, one per cent, a sibling, and 28 per cent have experienced the death of a grandparent. Previous reports suggest that 30 per cent of adolescents have had at least one sudden loss in their lifetime.
