€480,000 to repair and restore Pilgrim Path on Croagh Patrick

Mr Michael Ring TD, the Minister for Rural and Community Development, has confirmed that he has approved €480,000 in funding to support sustainable access works and habitat restoration on Croagh Patrick.

National Pilgrim Path event to include Easter Monday Tóchar walk

Easter weekend has again been designated Ireland's second National Pilgrim Paths event with a nationwide series of walks planned along all of the country's major medieval penitential walkways. To coincide with this event part of Tóchar Phádraig - the ancient Pilgrim Path between Ballintubber and Croagh Patrick - will be walked on Easter Monday April 6 from Aughagower to Ballintubber Abbey. The triumph of Easter Passion Play at Ballintubber Abbey

Ballintubber Passion Play is now in its 25th year of production. It is enacted in the grounds of Ballintubber Abbey, which were landscaped in 1986 with just such an event in mind. It involves a cast of 70 people, all drawn from the local community, and lasts one hour. A stand has been erected to accommodate the hundreds that come to experience it each year from all over Ireland. This year it takes place on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of Holy Week, March 25, 26 and 27.

The Tochar Phádraig Pilgrim Walk from Ballintubber Abbey to Croagh Patrick will take place tomorrow, Saturday, departing the Abbey at 8.30am.

The Tochar Phádraig Pilgrim Walk from Ballintubber Abbey to Croagh Patrick takes place on Sunday July 29 departing the Abbey at 8.30am. A back up car will accompany all the walkers to the end at Murrisk.

Pilgrim walk

The  Tochar Phádraig Pilgrim Walk will take place on Saturday June 30. It will depart from Ballintubber Abbey from 8.30am and continue on its journey to Croagh Patrick.
