Tacú Family Resource Centre in Ballinrobe goes from strength to strength

"Volunteers aren't paid because they are worthless, but because they are priceless," were the words of thanks given to the hard working volunteers of Tacú Family Resource Centre by Mary Jackson, project coordinator at Tacú's well-attended AGM last week. The chairperson Patsy Shaughnessy and Mary Jackson outlined how the FRC has supported hundreds of local people during 2015. Tacú also runs the youth booth which provides invaluable support to young people in south Mayo providing structured programmes as well as drop in support options and work with schools. Tacú also runs Little Stars After School programme.

Door-to-door fundraising starts to rebuild Ballinrobe Town Hall

Householders in Ballinrobe are asked to give generously as a door-to-door collection gets under way in the campaign to rebuild Ballinrobe Town Hall. A target of €400,000 in business and private contributions has been set as Ballinrobe aims to restore the old hall, which closed in 1996. A team of approximately 40 collectors will visit every house in the parish to seek support through a variety of suitable fundraising options.

Ballinrobe Musical Society has been nominated for three AIMS awards for their recent production of The Addams Family. The AIMS awards are handed out by the The Association of Irish Musical Societies to the best amateur musical society productions around the country.

May meeting at Ballinrobe ready to go to post

Preparations are well under way ahead of Ballinrobe’s two day race meeting next week which takes place on Monday May 30 and Tuesday May 31 at the south Mayo venue. Monday’s meeting will be sponsored by Breaffy House Resort and the feature race is the Breaffy House Resort Mares Handicap with a prize fund of €30,000.

Mayo summer 5k series launched

The launch has taken place of the seventh Annual Vodafone Mayo AC 5k series of five races. The 2016 series will start on Tuesday, May 24 and continue weekly on the following four Tuesdays, all at 8pm sharp. Mayo AC are delighted once again to have the sponsorship of Vodafone C&C Cellular for the Series. Brendan Chambers was on hand to launch the series and continues to give great support to athletics in the county. The series also serves as a major fundraiser for the club.

Ballinrobe gears up for Mayo Fleadh

The fleadh cheoil season is upon us again and it is time to take to the road. This year’s Fleadh Cheoil Mhaigh Eo will take place in Ballinrobe on the weekend of Saturday May 7 and Sunday May 8, full details of the event were announced in Ballinrobe recently. The launch was performed by the Cathaoirleach of Mayo County Council, Cllr Michael Holmes, emphasising the growing links between Mayo Comhaltas and Mayo County Council.
