Take the plunge with Swim for a Mile Challenge

Swim Ireland (SI) is delighted to announce the return of Swim for a Mile Challenge to Westmeath from May 18-33. The initiative challenges members of the public to compete in national events to swim a mile. SI will provide a free training programme, advice, and motivation for all who take on the challenge. This year’s Athlone challenge will be hosted at Athlone Regional Sports Centre.

Coosan Point charity swim

The Coosan Point charity swim will be held on Tuesday June 7 at 7pm. There will be four categories: 200m, 750m, 1,500m, and 3,000m. All entrants will get a number and time from it. The swim is just over three weeks before the TriAthlone and so would be a great opportunity for anyone training for the triathlon on July 2. Wetsuits are mandatory.

Sunday cycles with Shannonside Cycle Club

Whatever your age or level of fitness, it is never too late to start cycling. This Sunday November 7, Shannonside Cycling Club, in conjunction with Athlone Triathlon Club, are holding a cycle to cater for all levels.

Fox goes Black

Congratulations to Paul Fox from the Athlone Taekwon-Do School who received his Black Belt last weekend after an 18-year martial arts odyssey. Paul was put through his paces by Senior Master Anthony Phelan (8th degree) at the Republic of Ireland Taekwon-Do Association’s second biannual black belt exam in Dublin. The martial artist originally started training in Bray in 1990 and took a scenic route through several Taekwon-Do schools before settling in Athlone in 2005.
