CruinnTeo offer an intensive three-week Leaving Cert Irish course (June 4 to 21, 2024) for students entering fifth year or sixth year in September 2024. A key aim of CruinnTeo courses is to enhance students’ understanding and knowledge of the fundamental building blocks of the Irish language. Daily classes afford students the opportunity to both reinforce and enrich their language skills – reading, spoken interaction and writing.

The Leaving Cert

The Leaving Certificate, also known as Gaeilge as the Árd Teist, was first established in this country in 1924 and the first papers were marked in 1925. It is the final examination in the secondary school system and also serves as the university matriculation exam. There was a time when these two were separate exams. It is for the senior school cycle, most of the participants are 16 to 19 years old, although an increasing number of mature student now sit the tests.

As the parent of a 2020 Leaving Cert student, I have every sympathy for the class of 2021 and the uncertainty caused by the continuation of the Covid-19 pandemic for those students and their families.
