Suicide intervention course in Mullingar

A training course which is designed to help individuals become more ready, willing, and able to help persons who are at high risk of taking their own life is scheduled to take place in Mullingar this month.

The ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training ) course will take place in Mullingar onWednesday and Thursday May 30 and 31.

This course, which is run by the HSE and will be delivered by trained suicide prevention coordinators, will target the core problems that people are facing and train participants to be able to offer support to anyone suspected of being in crisis.

According to the suicide prevention coordinators, most people thinking about suicide signal their pain and may be seeking help; however without the skills to recognise this, individuals are not able to respond to these signals. The HSE is encouraging as many people as possible to avail of this training as it is vital that people develop a greater understanding of this problem and learn how best to pre-empt it.
