Fine for high-speed manoeuvres

A man has apologised for his ‘atrocious driving’ which Mullingar District Court heard caused considerable distress to the public.

Linas Bumbliauskas of 31 Oakvale, Ardnacassa, Longford was driving in Ballinalack on August 30 at 10pm when the person following him saw him swing in and out of the hard shoulder at high speed.

This caused “considerable distress” to the person behind him who followed him as he drove to a filling station and waited until gardaí arrived.

He has a previous conviction for having no insurance or driver’s licence and for driving without reasonable consideration.

Mr Redmond O’Regan said his client wanted to apologise for the driving and now plans to return home to eastern Europe permanently.

Judge Elizabeth McGrath noted that it was not the first time he’d been convicted for poor driving and fined him €1,000 and disqualified him for two years.
