Penrose demands IDA focuses on Mullingar jobs

Willie Penrose, spoke to Barry O’Leary, the CEO of the IDA this week, appealing for priority status to be given to Mullingar. Deputy Penrose wants to see the IDA working towards attracting industry to the well appointed and well located industrial parks, situated at Marlinstown, Mullingar.

“It has gone beyond a joke...[of the ] three towns in the Midlands; Athlone, Tullamore, Mullingar Gateway, only Mullingar has been overlooked to date. As a TD for Longford/Westmeath...I will at all times advocate and promote my constituency...and I make no apology for highlighting and focussing upon Mullingar and the surrounding areas, as this geographical area that has been consistently overlooked by Fianna Fail in government,” said Deputy Penrose.

“We have 70 acres of land at Marlinstown,” continued Deputy Penrose, “with planning permission for 25 acres and Westmeath County Council and all the local agencies and community groups, in support, and with a well educated and adaptable and skilled workforce with excellent infrastructural and leisure facilities...we are now fed up waiting, the time has come for the IDA to market Mullingar as a major priority above and beyond all other areas, and this will blend well with your stated policy objective of Balanced Regional Development of 50 per cent of such projects being delivered to regions outside of Dublin and Cork.”

Deputy Penrose is adamant that Mullingar has a suitable road network to the industrial park (N4, N52, N6 ) and is less than 50 minutes from Dublin Airport.
