Vandals trash Mullingar railway station

Vandals forced their way into Mullingar railway station on Wednesday evening this week, causing substantial damage to the premises.

Gardai are examining CCTV footage from the station in the hope of catching the perpetrators, who broke into the station between 10pm on Wednesday evening and 6am yesterday (Thursday ) morning.

During the break-in, they smashed a window, broke a padlock on a gate, disabled alarms, and damaged a ticket machine. The station’s office and the main station area were also ransacked.

Nothing was taken from the premises; however Gardai believe the culprits may have been looking for money.

Anyone with any information or who witnessed any suspicious activity in the vicinity of the railway station is asked to contact Mullingar Garda Station at (044 ) 9384000.

Gardai are also investigating two break-ins which occurred in Mullingar Business Park last Friday night, November 20.

Some €5,000 worth of property and a van were stolen from one premises, and a forklift from the business used to remove the goods.

Nothing was taken from the second premises, where a door was forced open and an office ransacked.
