Gardaí investigate robberies

Gardai in Mullingar are seeking assistance from the public in relation to a number of burglaries and break-ins in the town in the past week.

Last Thursday October 8, at 12.30pm, a man was robbed while carrying out a food delivery at Dalton Park. The man was approached by two males, one carrying a knife, who took a small amount of cash. Both men were wearing gloves, and both are described as having local accents.

A business premises on Austin Friars Street was burgled during business hours last Friday October 9. Gardai say six persons, described as foreign nationals, entered the premises, and distracted an employee, while one of the group went to the back storeroom and took a sum of cash from the safe.

Betweeen October 6 and 9, a house on the Lynn Road was broken into through a bedroom window and completely ransacked. A sum of cash and jewellery were taken. In a separate incident, between October 8 and 11, a private house at Lynn Road, Mullingar was also broken into. Although the door was broken and jimmied open, nothing was taken.

Gardai are also seeking witnesses to an assault which occurred at a licensed premises on Mount Street, Mullingar on Sunday October 11 at approximately 1.30am. The injured party was taken to Mullingar Hospital where he received nine stitches to his hand and was treated for some head injuries.
