Southern Gaels 0-15 Delvin 1-10
The Southern Gaels Under 16 team enjoyed a hard earned victory away to Delvin as they commenced their league campaign in style.
The Gaels held scoreboard sway throughout the game which was played in wet and windy conditions. Dara Geary contributed 11 points over the contest including two from play. Oisin O’Donoghue and Padraig O’Neill were also to the fore.
U14 Division 2
Delvin 6-9 Southern Gaels 4-8
The Southern Gaels U14 team travelled to Delvin to play their opening league contest, the players first game on a grass surface due to the inclement seasonal weather.
Delvin started the match at a very high tempo and scored several early goals. Southern Gaels responded with a goal and a point by Sam Meegan. In the second half the Gaels dominated possession in centrefield with Ryan Cunningham and Sam Meegan supplying quality ball into the forward line and Conal Lambe scoring three goals.
The back line tightened up their marking and goalkeeper Nathan Quigley made several really good saves in his first game in a full size goals, Cillian Coughlan impressing from his wing back berth.
The away team got to within three points of Delvin, but the eventual victors scored 1-1 at the end with the Gaels tiring after giving of their all.
Credit is due to all the parents and to Delvin for hosting the game and having the pitch in good condition.
