Fine Gael leader Dep Enda Kenny has welcomed funding sanctioned by the Department of Community, Rural, and Gaeltacht Affairs to Mayo County Council for providing and upgrading rural recreational projects in north Mayo. This funding will be used to extend the North Mayo Coastal Trail and develop a linear cycle route as part of the national cycle network as well as improved signage, parking, and toilet facilities in certain areas. The Department of Education and Science have confirmed to the Fine Gael Leader that they will shortly be signing a contract with a new internet service provider. The funding has been issued by the Department of Health and Children as part of their 2009 allocation from National Lottery funds. The funding has been issued to aid in refurbishment work at the social services centre which provides numerous important services around the wider Castlebar area.
