Celine King, Castlebar, won gold at the IUKL World Kettlebell Lifting Championships in Kazakhstan over the Halloween weekend. Celine is a member of the Irish International Kettlebell team. The 12 strong Irish team brought home eight golds, two silver and a bronze from Kazakhstan.

I am a self-confessed Christmas lover. I love the lights, the decorations, the atmosphere and dare I say it, the Christmas tunes. I have always loved Christmas, from when I was a small child with visions of Santa etched into my imagination nibbling my way through a selection box, to an adult who every year looks forward to catching up with old friends and family and indulging in too many glasses of mulled wine and that guilt-free calorific Christmas dinner.

Halloween has passed and everyone is now gearing themselves up for Christmas and the New Year. Of course Christmas is about buying presents for family and friends so it is likely that treats for yourself will have to be put off until 2017.

We have been counting down to this for the last few weeks here on this page, it’s that time of the year again, yes Halloween is Monday night, so this week I have a few more spooky recipes to share with you for the big day. Trick or treating is such a massive thing for the kids, collecting sweets and chocolates from local houses, so each year we have our homemade treats for the children, to vary the collection. Why don’t you try making them yourself and get into the Halloween spirit.

Ghouls and ghosts look set to rise from the grave in Castlebar tomorrow night, October 29, for what is set to be a memorable night of music and fancy dress in the county town. Castlebar’s largest fancy dress party, titled Devil’s Night, will take place at The Garbo’s Venue with live music from four excellent original bands — Overhead, The Albatross, Fangclub, Pranks, and Music For Dead Birds brought to you by Finbar Hoban Presents.
