The Heritage Council ‘County Ambassador Volunteer Programme’ seeks to recruit volunteers in every county. Located in the local Tourism Information Office throughout the week, the role of the county ambassador will be to provide tourists with information on what is happening in the local area as part of National Heritage Week.

The feile is back this year to raise funds for the children's cystic fibrosis ward in Mayo General Hospital with a fundraising family day out in Murrisk on Sunday August 5 at 2pm.

People of Mayo are today being encouraged by the Heritage Council to get involved in National Heritage Week by organising an event in their community. National Heritage Week 2012 takes place nationwide from August 18 to 26. Online registration is now open and all events must be registered by May 31 for inclusion in the National Heritage Week Event Guide. To register your event log on to www.heritageweek.ie

An Taisce ‘F grade’ planning report is ‘flawed’ according to Mayo County Council

Mayo County Council has hit back at a report launched by An Taisce this week, which ranked Mayo as the fifth worst local authority in regard to planning decisions. Mayo County Council have also called for An Taisce’s position to be reviewed following the report’s publication, stating that “The report is a further indication of the urgent need to have the privileged position which An Taisce has enjoyed in the planning system reviewed as a matter of urgency.”

Crash victim laid to rest
