The final round of group games in the Mayo GAA senior and intermediate championships took centre stage over the weekend, with action across the county on Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon. The eight sides to make the senior quarter-finals are Castlebar Mitchels, Ballintubber, Garrymore, Knockmore, Ballaghaderreen, Breaffy and Aghamore. The four sides who finished bottom of their groups and go into the relegation play-offs are Crossmolina Deel Rovers, Kiltane, Westport and Ballina Stephenites.

Draw throws up plenty of interesting contests
While the first round of the action in this year’s Trenalaur Catering Mayo GAA Senior Football Championship may be a good few months away, there was lots of interest in the draws held in Elvery's MacHale Park last night for the group stages. Following the draw for each group, a separate draw was made between the four sides to determine their order in the group to ensure there was a random factor in deciding which teams got two home games in the group stages.
In Humbert’s Footsteps picks up national LAMA award
There was celebrations for Mayo at the Local Authorities Members Association (LAMA) awards on Saturday night when In Humbert’s Footsteps picked up the Best Gathering Event for Ireland. The festival which saw re-enactments of General Humbert’s march through Mayo during 1798 in Killala, Kilcummin, Lahardane, and Castlebar saw off competition from 10 other events for the award.
