Last eight in senior and intermediate championships decided

GAA: Mayo SFC & IFC Round-Up

The final round of group games in the Mayo GAA senior and intermediate championships took centre stage over the weekend, with action across the county on Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon. The eight sides to make the senior quarter-finals are Castlebar Mitchels, Ballintubber, Garrymore, Knockmore, Ballaghaderreen, Breaffy and Aghamore. The four sides who finished bottom of their groups and go into the relegation play-offs are Crossmolina Deel Rovers, Kiltane, Westport and Ballina Stephenites.

Two teams (Crossmolina Deel Rovers and Ballina Stephenites ) who have won the All Ireland club championship since the turn of the millennium have ended up in the relegation play-off alongside Kiltane who contested the All Ireland intermediate club final earlier this year.

In group one, Castlebar Mitchels held off strong challenge from Shrule-Glencorrib to run out 1-14 to 1-11 winners, while Ballintubber had a big 2-18 to 1-2 win over Crossmolina. In group two Garrymore picked up their third win on the bounce in the championship with a 3-6 to 0-10 win away to Knockmore, while Ballinrobe had a 2-12 to 1-12 win over Kiltane in Bangor Erris on Saturday night which confirmed their senior status for 2015 and send last years Mayo and Connacht intermediate champions into the relegation play-off.

The final round of group three also took place on Saturday night with Ballaghaderreen having a 1-17 to 2-10 win over Charlestown, while Davitts saw off Westport away from home on a score of 2-9 to 0-12. Ballaghaderreen topped the group with three wins from three, while Charlestown, Davitts and Westport all finished on two points each, with Charlestown sneaking into the last eight on scoring difference, after they finished up the group stages with a scoring difference of -3, while Davitts finished on 0-4

In group four Breaffy made it three wins from three with a five point win over Ballina Stephenites at home on Sunday afternoon, with Aghamore making home advantage count with 2-11 to 0-12 win over Claremorris and send themselves into the last eight. With the group winners being seeded against a second placed team (expect for the second placed team in their group ) in the last eight the quarter-finals the quarter-final pairing will look like this:

Potential Quarter-Finals

Castlebar v Knockmore/Charlestown/Aghamore

Garrymore v Ballintubber/Charlestown/Aghamore

Ballaghaderreen v Ballintubber/Knockmore/Aghamore
