The children are back at school, the evenings are getting longer, and we are feeling the need to wrap up more — all subtle signs that winter is approaching. And so at the offices of Property Partners Maxwell Heaslip & Leonard, the preparations have begun for the final auctions of the year, the winter auctions, to be held in November.

Mealy’s auctioneers, based in Castlecomer, Co Kilkenny, will hold a rare books and collectors’ sale at its auction rooms on Chatsworth Street, Castlecomer, on Wednesday September 28 commencing at 10.30am.

“Sold!” was a word auctioneer James Heaslip MIPAV, of Property Partners Maxwell Heaslip & Leonard became used to exclaiming throughout the auction rooms of the Imperial Hotel last Friday afternoon. Six of the seven properties included in the company’s autumn auctions sold by close of business. “We were delighted with the results on the day, as are our vendors and purchasers,” Heaslip said after the event. “We came to auction to sell the properties, and sell we did.”

O’Donnellan and Joyce concluded the last auction of the summer when it brought down the auctioneer’s gavel for the last time and successfully sold six properties by auction in the Victoria Hotel, Eyre Square, Galway. Anne Harding, the auction co-ordinator for O’Donnellan and Joyce outlined that the July auctions brought an accumulative of sales of properties in excess of €5 million, which is the highest level of sales recorded by any independent Irish auctioneering company in selling properties by public auction.

The second of the Spoilt for Choice property auctions was held in the Victoria Hotel which was once again packed to capacity with bargain hunters chasing value for money. Anne Harding, the auction co-ordinator for O’Donnellan and Joyce commented: “There is unbelievable interest in the auctions at the moment as people realise that there is great value to be had and sellers are all extremely anxious to sell.”

O’Donnellan and Joyce recorded nine sales when it placed 11 properties up for sale by public auction. The auction room in the Victoria Hotel saw in the region of 250 people, standing room only, watch in awe as bidders chased the value at last Friday’s event.
