The finals of the Galway Parks tennis competition took place at the Galway Lawn Tennis Club on Friday July 24. A total of eight venues hosted tennis camps for the previous four weeks, culminating in the competition finale last Friday.

Castlebar Tennis Club is starting a new programme for adult beginner tennis players on Tuesday January 27 at 7.30pm. The course will run for six weeks and is designed for people who are completely new to tennis or who have not played in a long time. The course will cover the basics of tennis and will be organised by the new club captains for 2015, Thérèse Ruane and Jason Guthrie.

The Galway Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club was founded at a meeting in the Royal Hotel, Eyre Square, on May 19, 1900. Many of the founders were members of the British army, the landed gentry, and the professions such as doctors, solicitors, professors, etc. Membership was by invitation only so there was a certain elitism attached to the club in the early days.
