The island was included in the 20 locations highlighted across Ireland because of its link with Nobel laureate Heinrich Boll. The world renowned author spent alot of time on Achill, in his cottage in Dugort Village, and penned much of his work there, including his famous Irisches Tagebuch (Irish Journal).
