NUI Galway’s Centre for Climate and Air Pollution Studies (C-CAPS) has launched a new app to provide real-time forecasting data on atmospheric composition. The app, called StreamAIR, will shine a light on the key drivers of climate change and air pollution and build on its internationally recognised Mace Head Atmospheric Research Station.

NUI Galway researcher John Daly was named PhD Researcher of the Year at the recent Irish Cancer Society Research Awards. Mr Daly, who is currently doing a PhD with NUI Galway, was presented with the award for his studies into combatting multiple myeloma, a type of blood cancer for which there is currently no cure.

More than 500 guidance counsellors from all over Ireland are expected to attend the Institute of Guidance Counsellors National Conference which will be held in NUI Galway tomorrow (Friday) and Saturday. This 2020 conference is being hosted by the Galway/Mayo branch of the Institute of Guidance Counsellors. As well as facilitating the two day conference, NUI Galway has been unveiled as the main sponsor for this year’s event, with supporting sponsorship from GMIT.

Eilís Dillon was born on March 7, 1920, in Galway. Her parents were Professor Tom Dillon and Geraldine Plunkett, who was a sister of Joseph Mary Plunkett. They were very republican and were forced to move a number of times. They lived for a time in Daingean House and later in Barna for a few years. Eilís went to Barna National School where she became fluent at Irish, later to the Presentation, and later still to the Ursuline Convent in Sligo. She worked for a while in the hotel business.

A planning application has today been lodged for the eight-acre infill development site adjacent to Ceannt Train Station in Galway city centre that will see the creation of eleven new streets and four new civic spaces in a development that will create a new neighbourhood in the heart of the city.
