Local med device company Marvao secures major investment

Marvao Medical Devices, an early stage Irish medical device company base din Galway and focused on commercializing new products that reduce the risk of catheter related infections, has secured investment of €1.3 million in a funding round led by the AIB Seed Capital Fund along with earlier private investors including Harmac Medical Products and the Western Development Commission.

Twenty new jobs and $10 million investment at Allergan

One of Mayo’s biggest employers, Allergan in Westport, is to create 20 new jobs. These will be added to the almost 800 jobs already at the Westport facility when it begins manufacture of Allergan’s newest medical technology, SeriScaffold which represents a $10 million investment at the Westport site.

The Garra Glas in the Claddagh

The Garra Glas (The green field or green garden) was an area of the Claddagh which corresponds to where the Fire Station is today. Our photograph was taken in the 1930s when things were changing in the area .. the old Claddagh houses were being gradually knocked down to make way for those that are there today. Kerbstones were being laid down to frame the newly laid road surface. The house we see on the left belonged to the Flaherty family. The building next to it was obviously converted from a cottage into a workshop of some kind with the large beam supporting the double doors. Next door was Cubbards. You can see someone peeping out the door.

New high tech business opened in Westport over Christmas

A new business was launched in Westport over Christmas when Enda Kenny TD officiated at the opening of engineering business Horizon West, a high tech start-up delivering technical support services to manufacturers in the life sciences, electronics, and other knowledge based sectors. Horizon West expects to double its current workforce to 20 within the next year.
