Galway celebrated a home win in this year's Kearney Cycles Streets of Galway 8k which took place on Saturday.

Hundreds run for Aoibhe at successful Renville Park 5K

Close to 700 runners took to the pathways of Renville Park on Wednesday night last to compete in the third annual Renville Park 5K, with all proceeds from the event going to local charity ACT for Meningitis.

•Renmore AFC Soccer Club is running a Race Night in the Huntsman Inn College Road on Saturday March 9 to raise funds for the running of the soccer club. All are invited to attend, including anyone not directly involved in the club who would like to participate. The night will consist of a full race card of 10 races shown on large screen TVs with full tote facilities available. Marathon organisers donated thousands of euro to local athletes and clubs, despite claims by former mayor

Much has been written and broadcast over the past week on the impasse between the City Council and the organisers of the now-cancelled Galway City Marathon, which was due to take place at the end of this month and draw a vast number of runners to the the city. However, among the most hurtful barbs thrown was the allegation by former mayor Michael Crowe that the organisers did not honour a commitment to donate marathon funds to sporting clubs and athletes in the city which has been angrily rejected by the organisers and proven to be untrue.
