This photograph was taken in 1900 of the staff of Robert MacDonald, the plumber from Dominick Street. The business was started by his father, Peter MacDonald (late manager for Ross and Murray), who advertised himself in 1887 as “Plumber, Brassfounder and Gasfitter”.

Westport based author Keith Martin's first book The Little Book of Sham has been chosen by Fund It to be exhibited as part of a showcase of Project Creators work in Dublin on November 2 in partnership with sponsor Bank of Ireland. The Little Book of Sham will feature in the showcase in the Bank of Ireland Innovation Hub on Grand Canal Square for the month of November. Keith Martin is a librarian in his hometown of Westport.

I am sure that the good sisters at the renowned Ursuline convent school, Sligo, had no idea what they were letting themselves in for when Eilís Dillon and her sisters landed as boarders at their door. The Dillon girls were confident, challenging and extremely well read. Both parents were imprisoned; their father, Professor Tom Dillon, was ‘on the run’ for most of that time.
