Westport House was among 10 tourism enterprises from Ireland which travelled to London last weekend to join Tourism Ireland for Excursions, an annual group travel show which attracts about 1,000 influential coach and group tour operators from around Great Britain.

Fourteen tourism enterprises from Ireland - including Waveline Cruises which is based in Athlone - travelled to Stuttgart recently, to join Tourism Ireland for this year’s CMT (Caravan, Motor, and Tourism) Fair. At the fair, the busy Tourism Ireland stand took first prize for best stand, beating off stiff competition from 2,000 other exhibitors.

A group of influential American tour operators visited Mayo recently. They followed an action-packed itinerary, which also took in Galway, Sligo, Donegal, Belfast, and Dublin. These tour operators are responsible for making the travel arrangements for a range of large groups across the United States – including choral, pilgrimage, Christian heritage and educational groups. Their fact-finding visit was a fantastic opportunity to showcase what Mayo and Ireland has to offer such groups. They enjoyed a tour of Westport House before visiting the Croagh Patrick Visitor Centre and the National Famine Monument in Murrisk. Carefully selected and invited here by Tourism Ireland in New York, the itinerary for the tour operators was designed by Fáilte Ireland.

One of the top prizes at last weekend’s IPB All-Island Pride of Place Awards went to Shantalla Residents Association who were given particular recognition for their trojan work on the Gathering Project, bringing people from home and abroad together for the re-enactment of the Monster Rallies addressed by Daniel O’Connell.

Anam Cara launched its national awareness campaign with their annual Balloon to Remember release. Families from across Ireland gathered in Athlone to release thousands of balloons, each one dedicated to the memory of a son or daughter who has died. Over 50 families came together for the event which brings together families from 32 counties in Ireland for one day to remember the child they’ve lost.

Minister of State for Tourism and Sport Michael Ring joined Tourism Ireland and 70 tourism enterprises from across the island of Ireland at World Travel Market (WTM) in London on Monday heralding the beginning of the promotional drive for the 2014 season.

Minister of State for Tourism and Sport, Michael Ring, announced this week at Killarney at the 2013 Gala Irish Golf Awards, that the location for the 17th National Golf Tourism Conference and 2014 Gala Irish Golf Awards will be Westport, in association with Fáilte Ireland and the 2014 tourism initiative the Wild Atlantic Way.
