A group in Galway has set a new world record for the longest distance rowed in 24 hours by a mixed team aged between 30-39 years. The world record attempt was organised by Damian Browne, former Connacht & Leinster Rugby Star, who will set off on his own Solo Atlantic Rowing Challenge in December. The team of 35 people rowed 378,473 metres non-stop over the 24-hour period in the Warehouse Gym.

Tourism providers along the Wild Atlantic Way got another boost this week with the commencement by Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) of a twice weekly service between Shannon and Stockholm. Without volunteers sport just would not happen and it is vital that we continue to support them in their hugely important work."

The rescheduled Breaffy GAA Monster Auction will take place this coming Saturday in Breaffy GAA Clubhouse. The auction was due to take place on Saturday, May 27 but was postponed as a mark of respect after a tragic death in the club. The auction gets underway this Saturday at 6.30pm and the hundreds of items up for auction has a worth in excess of €30,000.

Tucked away just two miles from Galway city is the five-star Glenlo Abbey Hotel, in vast acres of rich, lush, scenery on the banks of Lough Corrib. The abbey is the ancestral home to one of Galway’s famous tribes, the Ffrench family. The graceful, gothic, two-storey house was built in 1740, with the abbey itself being constructed in the 1790s as a private church for the family. In the 1980s, the house and estate were bought, restored, and converted, transforming it into a unique hotel.
